Councilman Gregory Johnson, a Waco native, was raised by his single mother who, at an early age, instilled in him the importance of hard work, being fair and honest, and serving others in need. He has carried these values with him throughout his journey of life and they have served as the strong foundation in all of his undertakings. Gregory learned throughout this journey, that just because he grew up financially disadvantaged and at many times homeless, it didn’t mean that the sky was the limit. He lives and breathes public service and volunteerism and is passionate about continuing to improve his community through hard work and selfless service to others.
Leadership and Public Service
Councilman Johnson is an active public servant, veteran and small business owner with over 18 years of experience in business management, community development and public policy. He is serving his second term on the Killeen City Council where he has worked tirelessly to ensure Killeen is the place where people want to work, play and grow their families. He has served on the Killeen – Temple Metropolitan Planning Organization, Central Texas Council of Governments and the Development District of Central Texas. In addition, Gregory has served in leadership roles with several nonprofits and trade organizations. Previously, he served on the Killeen Planning and Zoning Commission, Killeen Housing Authority, as well as president of the Apartment Association of Central Texas and the Texas Army National Guard where he deployed overseas to Kosovo in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Ready to Serve Justice with Fairness and Experience
After more than seven years of dedicated public service to the citizens of Killeen and Bell County, Councilman Johnson announced his candidacy for Bell County Justice of the Peace. As an active public servant dedicated to fairness and justice for all, his goal is to stabilize and restore justice and fairness to the Precinct 4, Place 1 Justice Court. His many years of experience in filing and arguing cases in JP court as a pro se litigant, strong foundation of being fair and just, and stellar track record of making important decisions on various city matters based on sound reasoning, facts and good judgement will be key to achieving this goal.
Gregory is an expert in landlord – tenant issues, which make up a majority of JP Pct. 4 court cases. He is a certified apartment manager, certified apartment portfolio supervisor and has mediated dozens of landlord – tenant issues. Gregory has spent the last year and a half studying JP court deskbooks and training documents, attending online law continuing education courses and shadowing judges and attorneys in court. He understands the Texas Property Code, Rules of Civil Procedure, Code of Criminal Procedure, Rules of Evidence and other pertinent rules governing Justice Courts. He has a thorough knowledge of JP civil and criminal proceedings, inquests and setting fair bail bonds. Gregory is proud to call Killeen his home and asks that fellow citizens back the bowtie for Bell County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, Place 1.
